April 26, 2008 At the BC Book Prizes gala at the Fairmont Waterfront in Vancouver, Mary Novik's Conceit was awarded the Ethel Wilson Fiction Prize for 2008. April 25, 2008 Caroline Skelton awards her own tongue-in-cheek prizes--including the "I can smell the cobblestones award" and the "bad sex award"-- to the five finalists for the Ethel Wilson Fiction Prize (The North Shore News, p. 19).
April 19, 2008 We've now touched down from our flight back to Vancouver after touring communities along the Yellowhead Highway from Prince Rupert to Prince George, and back! There's a great authors' blog and a photo album from the tour, and local coverage can be found in The Prince Rupert Daily News, April 11, 2008; The Prince George Citizen ("Authors Reach out to Students", April 18, 2008), and other northern papers.

January 14, 2008 Mary Novik is interviewed by Nancy Lee for Booming Ground, the online writing studio in the University of BC's Creative Writing program.
January 1, 2008 Mary Soderstrom announces on her blog Recreating Eden on January 1, 2008, and again on April 2, 2008, that "Lawrence Hill's The Book of Negroes . . . and Mary Novik's Conceit were the two best Canadian novels I read last year."

December 21, 2007   Inkslinger admires Conceit in spite of herself in a review at her blog The Overdecorated Bookcase, which has attracted a number of visitors who have added provocative comments. 
December 2007   Mary Novik reads from Conceit and talks about the inspiration for the novel in two sound files at Authors Aloud.
December 2007   Conceit moves to #6 in Books in Canada's Top 15 Bestselling First Novels, the only book on the list that is in hardcover.
December 2, 2007   Gail Anderson-Dargatz chooses Mary Novik's Conceit as the book that she is championing for Fall 2007 in The Ottawa Citizen and other periodicals.
December 1, 2007 Jim Bartley includes Conceit in "My Top Five: A Feast of Firsts" in The Globe 100, The Globe and Mail, p. D6.
December 2007 Quill & Quire chooses Conceit as one of the Books of the Year for 2007.
November 2007 Books in Canada ranks Conceit as #4 on their Top 15 Bestselling First Novels list.
